R&S Marching Arts is a premier design and manufacturer specializing in custom flags, costumes, and props for the marching arts. Founded in 2014 by two industry veterans, the company deeply understands how visual elements must work in concert. This project focused on elevating the brand presence while integrating agile new operational processes. By streamlining their workflows, they became significantly more nimble than their competitors—ensuring backend operations now match the award-winning caliber of their designs.

STRATEGY

Position R&S Marching Arts as the definitive partner for marching bands, drum corps, and winter guards by highlighting their unique dual expertise: they are both world-class designers and hands-on makers. The strategy aimed to bridge the gap between high-level conceptual design and practical execution, not only in their brand messaging but also within their internal workflows, showcasing their commitment to delivering the highest-quality products on rigorous timelines. Built around the core promise of delivering “The Best, Smartest, Most Original Design in the Activity,” the brand platform emphasizes the founders’ personal involvement.

APPROACH

To support this strategic positioning operationally, we introduced a digital-first design and prototyping workflow that removed multiple conventional industry steps. This shift gave them total, in-house control over manufacturing—from initial concept and custom fabric printing to final sewing—a capability that was unique in the industry at the time. Simultaneously, we developed targeted messaging to assure program directors of reliability and pricing, while offering instructors cohesive, peer-to-peer design collaboration.
